The County of Hawai‘i's Department of Parks and Recreation will receive about $4.9 million in disaster recovery assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and State loans as a result of the inundation of ‘Ahalanui Beach Park and damage to Isaac Kepo‘okalani Hale Beach Park. 

UPDATE, 10-10-2025

The Department of Parks and Recreation has contracted Limtiaco Consulting Group to undertake the planning and design process for the Isaac Kepo‘okalani Hale Beach Park Improvements Project.

Project Status

  • Currently, Parks and Recreation is reviewing the Final Design Documents, the Environmental Assessment, the Archaeological Inventory Survey and the Preservation Plan developed with our consultant.
  • The project is scheduled to go out for bid for construction in the first quarter of 2026.

The Isaac Kepo‘okalani Hale Beach Park Improvements Project design includes:

  • a new, large, primary pavilion for community gatherings
  • several roof-only open pavilions for smaller gatherings, plus additional open picnic areas
  • improved camping amenities
  • a new off-grid electrical system consisting of photovoltaics, batteries and a generator
  • a new fire protection system
  • parking and other related infrastructure and recreational amenities to support maximum use and community value to the park
