The County of Hawai‘i's Department of Parks and Recreation will receive about $4.9 million in disaster recovery assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and State loans as a result of inundation of ‘Ahalanui Beach Park and damage to Isaac Kepo‘okalani Hale Beach Park.

In this video from October, 2021, Planning Director Zendo Kern and Parks and Recreation Director Maurice Messina discuss proposed plans for use of the recovery funds for parks. Following this recording, the County agreed to allocate funds identified for purchasing equipment at the Hilo Municipal Golf Course to provide additional funding for Isaac Kepo‘okalani Hale Beach Park improvements.
