Interim Recovery Strategy Clears Committee
County, Council collaborate to move recovery forward.
Hawai‘i County’s Interim Recovery Strategy for the 2018 Kīlauea eruption received unanimous support from the County Council’s Finance Committee on Tuesday.
The interim strategy represents the culmination of the recovery team’s efforts over the past year, with many of the initiatives already in progress. The document lays out objectives and strategies, in addition to reporting milestones for county staff.
Council member Ashley Kierkiewicz of Puna introduced the interim strategy through a resolution. The proposed strategy requires a vote at an upcoming council meeting to be adopted.
Kierkiewicz, who represents the inundation area, developed the current draft with Council member Sue Lee Loy of Hilo and county recovery leadership.
The Interim Recovery Strategy is organized by the six Recovery Support Functions established in FEMA’s National Disaster Recovery Framework. The interim strategy drives near-term action while the long-term Recovery Strategic Plan is being developed.
A comprehensive Recovery Strategic Plan will be drafted by end of year.
